OPM Names Acting CIO

The agency's deputy CIO will step up to lead agency technology efforts.
A few weeks after the Office of Personnel Management’s chief information officer announced he was stepping down, the human capital agency has a new acting CIO: Rob Leahy, formerly the agency's deputy CIO.
Dave DeVries left his post after about a year on the job, though his last day is Sept. 2. He joined OPM from the Defense Department, where he served as principal deputy chief information officer.

OPM Chief Information Security Officer Cord Chase will take over the role of acting deputy CIO, according to an agency announcement. Both Leahy and Chase are expected to serve in these roles until OPM finds permanent replacements.
DeVries’ departure adds to the list of federal CIOs who have left government or been reassigned to other positions. President Donald Trump’s nomination for the Homeland Security Department CIO Richard Starapoli’s last day is also this week. He lasted about three months before resigning. Career federal employees Jonathan Alboum and Sonny Baghowalia, CIOs at the Agriculture and Treasury departments respectively, were recently reassigned to other positions.
