GSA releases smart card solicitation
The General Services Administration released the longawaited solicitation for the governmentwide Smart Access Common ID Card program that will provide a single vehicle for agencies to buy smart card products and services.
The General Services Administration released the long-awaited solicitation for the governmentwide Smart Access Common ID Card program that will provide a single vehicle for agencies to buy smart card products and services.
The indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract will provide common, interoperable multi-application smart cards and services to agencies. The cards will be used as a government ID card but also will support access to computers and buildings.
Although no single smart card will be able to provide all the services and capabilities for all applications that the GSA envisions, all the solutions must support physical and logical access control, biometrics and cryptographic services, according to the request for proposals.
GSA plans to make up to five awards. Some vendors have valued the contract at $1 billion. The solicitation is available at www.eps.gov under the GSA Federal Technology Service Federal Computer Acquisition Center.
