Authorized employees at the Treasury Department soon will be able to order
computer products online via an electronic procurement World Wide Web site,
according to terms of a blanket purchase agreement announced Tuesday.
The first-of-its-kind Web site will be designed and maintained by Gaithersburg,
Md.-based SMAC Data Systems Inc. to serve as a "one-stop shopping" service
where Treasury employees can purchase desktop computers, notebook computers,
servers, printers and networking equipment from companies including Toshiba
America Information Systems Inc., Cisco Systems Inc. and SMS.
SMAC Data and Toshiba have an exclusive agreement to provide mobile and
enterprise solutions for Treasury customers.
"The [new] site will give Treasury IT professional immediate access to the
finest products in the world with a simple click on their computers screens,"
said Ashok Mehan, chief executive officer of SMAC Data, in a release. "This
is a major breakthrough in the often cumbersome federal procurement process.
Treasury employees will love this."
