Census counts on Entrust tools

The Census Bureau this week selected Entrust Technologies Inc.'s software

to provide desktop security for its field workforce of more than 4,000 people.

The bureau will use Entrust tools for the desktop encryption of data

collected by door-to-door census takers, said Sam Maccherola, vice president

of Entrust's U.S. federal markets division. Entrust's solutions automatically

protect sensitive information on workstations, laptops or network drives.

"This is the beginning of an ongoing relationship between Entrust and

the bureau, and we'll be working together to help secure their data," Maccherola

said, adding that the contract is "ongoing" and therefore could not discuss

specific values.

The Census Bureau declined to comment for this report.
