23 firms part of Image World award
NIH has awarded a follow-on to its Image World contract to 23 large and small imaging companies

The National Institutes of Health has awarded a follow-on to its Image World contract to 23 imaging companies in a program potentially worth $15 billion.
The contracts awarded under Image World 2, New Dimensions, (IW2) were the latest step in providing small and large businesses the opportunity to snag a piece of the federal information technology pie through NIH's Information Technology Acquisition and Assessment Center.
"The good thing about Image World is that it encompasses all of the emerging imaging technology, not just the ones for business," said Elmer Sembly, associate director for communications and outreach at NIH's Office of Administration.
The businesses include companies that provide medical imaging to help diagnose diseases, scientific imaging for research, and satellite imaging that is used by the Environmental Protection Agency to detect pollution.
Sembly said 19 of the companies are small businesses, including woman- and minority-owned businesses.
The contract presents companies with a vehicle to offer a variety of services to federal agencies shopping for the best contractor, much like Chief Information Officer Solutions and Partners 2 — a companion program also awarded last month by NIH.
