GSA awards procurement data system
Next-generation system will replace the 20-year-old Federal Procurement Data System
The General Services Administration has awarded a $24 million contract for its Federal Procurement Data System-Next Generation.
GSA chose Global Computer Enterprises Inc. to develop the system. GCE, a systems integrator based in Gaithersburg, Md., is primarily a government contractor.
The next-generation system will replace the original Federal Procurement Data System, which is more than two decades old. The system tracks all government purchases, from the most trivial to the largest, but it has a reputation for recording inaccurate data.
GSA issued the request for proposals for the new system in October 2002.
