National Weather Service awards $48 million contract

RS Information Systems Inc. won a $48 million contract to provide technology and science-related services at the National Weather Service headquarters in Silver Spring, Md.
Services from RSIS will include network administration, desktop support, scientific workstation support, science-related software development, graphics, Web site support and systems integration.
The contract is the latest in a series of awards that the agency has given to RSIS, which also services NWS facilities in Camp Springs, Md. and Norman, Okla. and elsewhere.
"NWS data and products form a national information database and infrastructure used by other government agencies, the private sector, the public and the global community," said Rodney Hunt, RSIS president and chief executive officer. "The result is the protection of life and property and benefits to the national economy."
The National Weather Service, a branch of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, provides weather, hydrologic, and climate forecasts and warnings for the United States, territories and ocean areas.
