BearingPoint wins smart card deal

The General Services Administration has picked BearingPoint Inc. to provide 14,000 smart identification cards for GSA employees.

The $1.35 million task order comes under GSA's governmentwide Smart Access Common ID contract. The cards will include identifying cardholder information, such as fingerprint data or identification numbers, on a microchip.

BearingPoint, based in McLean, Va., will also provide card readers and visitor identification validation systems at GSA facilities nationwide. GSA plans to eventually expand the contract to include ID cards for contractors working at GSA facilities.

GSA employees should get the cards by the beginning of 2004.
