HP, PlanetGov get IRS contract

The Internal Revenue Service has chosen a provider to supply server and network storage technology for a server consolidation project. Hewlett-Packard Co. and its reseller partner, PlanetGov Inc., won the blanket purchase agreement worth as much as $50 million.

The IRS expects PlanetGov and HP to replace its 4,400 IBM Corp. and Dell Inc. servers, and 30 storage-area networks (SANs), during the next four years. HP will provide 3,000 servers and 30 SANs for the effort.

"Together with HP and PlanetGov, the IRS is addressing [information technology] challenges associated with the growing American taxpayer base," said Jim Weynand, vice president and general manager of HP's public-sector organization, in a statement.
