Army seeks vendor support for U.S. systems

The Army today announced plans to hire an information technology support services' vendor for its Continental United States Theater Network Operations and Security Center, which operates the service's domestic computer systems.

Network Enterprise Technology Command will hold an industry day at Fort Huachuca, Ariz., in mid-April to explain IT services sought as part of the contract. Netcom officials will award the deal by Aug. 1, which includes a base period with two one-year options, according to a March 24 government new business statement.

The winning vendor will provide personnel to operate the Army's domestic computer systems and to analyze and fix network security problems. The vendor will also work with other service and military computer security organizations, the statement said.

The contract announcement comes in the wake of what an industry IT official described March 16 as a tumultuous month at Netcom. The official said Army domestic systems experienced persistent, coordinated computer network attacks.

The Netcom Public Affairs Office did not return telephone calls seeking comment.
