Lockheed wins another ODIN deal

Lockheed Martin Corp. won a $22 million contract to manage desktop service at NASA headquarters.

The contract is for seat management, which typically means that the vendor takes care of all issues related to desktop PCs for every employee in the facility. The three-year delivery order is slated to begin Sept. 1, after a 60-day transition period.

Lockheed Martin will provide communications and infrastructure support and desktop and related services, plus facsimile and printer services with additional services and commercial products available through catalog sales.

This week's win adds to the company's domination of NASA's Outsourced Desktop Initiative (ODIN) contract vehicle by making it the enterprisewide ODIN provider for the entire NASA agency. Lockheed Martin holds ODIN contracts at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md.; Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas; Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, Fla.; Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala.; and Stennis Space Center in Mississippi.

The headquarters contract follows a recent win in which the company retained ODIN work for the next three years at four NASA science and research centers.

Other agencies, such as the Treasury and Housing and Urban Development departments have hired a single vendor to handle information technology support. But recently the practice has seen a decline.
