GSA regaining its feet on Alliant

John Johnson, assistant commissioner of service development and delivery at the General Services Administration, said today that he has called a brief time-out on Alliant, a planned governmentwide acquisition contract that has been slow in coming together.

Johnson took charge of the development of Alliant and a small-business companion contract in August. Johnson, who was already heading up the development of the Networx procurement, was chosen to take over Alliant when Neal Fox, former assistant commissioner of commercial acquisition, retired from GSA in July.

Johnson said he has put development on hold until Nov. 11 so that he can examine the contracts and ensure that they are moving in the right direction with a sound strategy.

"I'm not looking at Alliant as just a replacement for existing contracts," he said. "I'm looking at it as the foundation for our future."

Johnson, who spoke at a meeting of AFCEA International, said that GSA is also working on a new satellite communications contract.
