Navy awards SI a spot on SeaPort-e contract

SI International has won a prime contractor slot on the Navy’s wide-ranging SeaPort Enhanced (SeaPort-e) contract vehicle.

SeaPort-e is a multiple-award contract vehicle through which the Navy estimates it will procure as much as $5.3 billion in services per year. SeaPort-e started in 2004 with more than 100 contracts awarded. The Navy has since added two batches of contractors to the vehicle under a rolling admissions program.

The most recent group of awards, made in early June, included SI. The integrator had previously participated in SeaPort-e as a subcontractor. The company’s new prime contractor role will let it increase the scope of its activities under the contract, company executives said.

SeaPort-e spans seven geographic zones and 22 functional service areas, including software engineering, development, programming and network support; information systems development, information assurance, and information technology support; and research and development support. SI will be able to pursue task orders throughout all zones and functional areas, the company said.

Esther Burgess, vice president for governmentwide acquisition contract programs at SI, said SeaPort-e has emerged as the Navy’s IT contract of choice. The Navy had previously conducted business through numerous General Services Administration schedule contracts and GWACs, she said. But the Navy’s task orders now “are pretty much coming through the [SeaPort-e] contract,” she added.
