EPA awards Alion another waste cleanup contract

The Environmental Protection Agency has chosen Alion Science and Technology to help support its efforts to clean up heavily contaminated sites.The agency awarded a regional Environmental Services Assistance Team (ESAT) contract to the company today. The contract is worth $22.9 million.Alion will provide analysis of waste samples, analytical and field support services, and technical information and electronic data transfer capabilities at EPA’s Science and Technology Center in Region 2. The region covers New Jersey, New York, tribal nations and the U.S. Virgin Islands.EPA developed the ESAT contracts to support waste sampling and cleanup at agency-designated Superfund sites, which are areas so toxic they are unlivable and abandoned.Alion now holds contracts for three of EPA’s 10 ESAT regions. The agency awarded the $6 million Region 6 and $19.4 million Region 7 contracts to Alion in April 2006 and June 2006, respectively. The two contracts cover waste sites in Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
