Letter: Ignoring small-biz goals should have consequences
A reader says agencies shouldn’t be able to get away with not achieving small-business contracting goals.
Regarding “SBA chief: Tougher times ahead for agency contracting scores”: It is great to see the list being cleaned up — and I hope the billions awarded to foreign businesses with no U.S. presence are also removed — but all of the work is of little real use if the agencies and prime contractors are not held to the goals and made to pay for the gross misses I have noticed among categories such as service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses.
A 0.4 percent result out of a 3 percent goal is very poor for four years after the goal was initiated. In my line of business, someone would have lost his or her job already.
The bottom line is that the massaging of the data is being used for political speak with absolutely no repercussions for those who continue to ignore the goals.
