Letter: Where's the DOT OIG in contracting?
A reader writes that members of the Volpe Center finds the Transportation Department's competition culture "extremely ironic given the current state of affairs with information technology contracts at DOT."
Regarding "": We here at the Volpe Center find this sidebar story to be extremely ironic given the current state of affairs with information technology contracts at [the Transportation Department]. Currently DOT has mandated that all agencies consolidated their IT support contracts with DOT's. However, these contracts are effectively being sole-sourced to the existing HQ contractor with no competition whatsoever and no consideration for the impact on the agencies or the lack of the ability of other contracting companies to compete for work that they are already doing.Given all of this going on, we find it hard to swallow the sidebar topic as written. Where's the DOT OIG in all of this?
