Letter: Dependence on contractors eternal
A reader writes that the contractor vs. civil servant debate ensures dependence on contractors.
Regarding "Experts redefining government-only work"
According
to the article, the government needs contractors to perform work that
civil servants should perform because there aren't enough civil
servants. Although the obvious solution would be to hire more civil
servants, people assert that has to be off the table, claiming that it
takes too long to hire civil servants. What about streamlining the
hiring process? That's taken off the table, also, by saying it's too
difficult.
So the merry-go-round returns to its starting point. No action. Dependence on contractors becomes eternal.
