Tony Costa named GSA associate administrator
Costa will find areas where GSA can compile a package of agencywide services to offer its clients.
Tony Costa has been named the new associate administrator at the General Services Administration, the agency said today.
Costa remains deputy commissioner of GSA’s Public Buildings Service until March 22 when he officially moves into his new job as associate administrator. In his new role, he will look for areas where GSA can offer client agencies a complete set of solutions. Then he will work with GSA Administrator Martha Johnson to bundle those solutions into a package, GSA said.
"GSA is in a great position provide more innovative, efficient, and cost-effective solutions to our customers. I'm looking forward to helping make that happen," Costa said in a statement today.
In a recent speech, Johnson said GSA was forced to offer better services in the 1990s when legislation ended its status as the mandated company store for the government. She said the law was a gift to the agency, even though it shocked some at the time.
“It has helped us grow up and made it necessary for GSA to play in the competitive arena and the real market,” she said in the Feb. 16 speech. "Our challenge now is to win in that market."
