Federal 100: Maurice C. Stewart
Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary
Logistics Policy and Supply Chain Management
Veterans Affairs Department
The work: Leading the effort to improve the performance of VA’s acquisition and logistics programs.
The impact: By creating the Supplier Relationship Transformation program, Stewart gave VA its first enterprisewide tool for gathering qualitative and quantitative information about system shortcomings and taking corrective action.
The nuts and bolts: The program enhances the transparency of VA’s acquisition activities and enables all stakeholders to share their concerns and contribute to efforts to improve the IT acquisition process. Since the program’s launch, customer satisfaction scores for five out of six VA contracting organizations have increased by 20 percent, and communication among all stakeholders has improved, leading to cost savings and less duplication of effort.
