GSA e-commerce system back online
EOffer, the electronic bid submission system, was taken down after a user found a serious security flaw.
The General Services Administration has put eOffer back online after having temporarily shut it down to fix a security hole. The system went back up about 6 p.m. yesterday, according to an e-mail from a GSA consultant.
GSA shut down the site earlier this month after a contractor discovered that he could type in identification numbers and get records that other companies filed. The contractor, Think Computer President Aaron Greenspan, said that an unscrupulous user could exploit the weakness to change the bids other companies submitted. He alerted GSA to the problem.
Agency spokeswoman Jen Millikin said earlier that the agency did not believe anyone had used the security hole to cause any damage. Contractors use eOffer to submit and modify bid documents for GSA schedule contracts.
