AppSecInc. secures databases

Application Security Inc. (AppSecInc.) has enhanced its intrusion detection and security audit solution for databases to help organizations protect sensitive data.

AppRadar 3.0 lets administrators defend against application vulnerabilities in real time while ensuring strict adherence to regulatory requirements, company officials said. The company now offers those capabilities on all major database platforms, including Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2 and Sybase.

The real-time monitoring capabilities allow organizations to track events, such as the spread of the Oracle Voyager worm, as they occur and receive alerts about abuses such as a rogue database administrator taking customer credit card information, said Ted Julian, vice president of strategy at AppSecInc.

The intrusion-detection tool includes new preconfigured policies for complying with laws such as the Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 and Payment Card Industry security regulations.

AppRadar tightly integrates with AppSecInc.’s vulnerability assessment solution, AppDetective, to close the gap between the discovery of vulnerabilities and the remediation work needed to fix security holes. AppDetective automatically generates an AppRadar policy to monitor any remaining threats in an organization’s infrastructure, company officials said.
