The Department of Veterans Affairs plans to award a one-year sole-source contract to Cybertrust to continue work on a research project to link public-key infrastructure technology with smart cards and smart card-based systems.
The VA's goal is to create connections between PKI and smart cards, card-management systems, physical access control systems and related databases, according to a VA announcement published Aug. 11.
Once Cybertrust has laid the technical groundwork, the VA plans to compete a contract to carry the project forward.
