NIST releases revision of draft biometrics publication

The guidelines are acquisition and formatting specifications regarding personal identity verification card biometrics.

SP 800-76-1, Biometric Data Specification for Personal Identity Verification

The National Institute of Standards and Technology has released a revised draft of “Biometric Data Specification for Personal Identity Verification,” NIST’s acquisition and formatting guidelines for Personal Identity Verification card biometrics.

“The changes include incorporation of the published errata document, clarification on performance testing and certification procedures, and caution regarding fingerprint minutiae generation,” states the National Security Personnel System’s Computer Security Resource Center Web site. The guide covers everything from fingerprint to facial-recognition technolgoy.

People can send comments on the draft to sp800-101@nist.gov by Oct. 5, with "Comments on Public Draft SP 800-76-1” in the subject line.
