DOD seeks contractor training requirement rule change
Amending the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement’s training requirements would apply to contractors who perform information assurance work for DOD.
The Defense Department wants to amend the training requirements of the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement that apply to contractor employees who perform information assurance work for DOD.The rule change would require those personnel to meet applicable training and certification requirements.Under the proposed rule, those contractor employees would be subject to the requirements of the Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002; DOD Directive 8570.1, Information Assurance Training, Certification, and Workforce Management; and DOD Manual 8570.01-M, Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program.DOD said the objective of the proposed rule is to ensure that contractor personnel who have access to DOD information systems are properly trained and managed.About 83 small-business concerns fall into this category each year, DOD said.Comments on the proposed rule should be submitted in writing on or before March 23.
