Barrett leads the team that operates SCAP, the National Vulnerability Database, the National Checklist Program and the SCAP Laboratory Accreditation program.
As a representative to the Information Security Automation Program working group, Barrett coordinated the interagency security automation agenda, which integrates and implements SCAP governmentwide, with counterparts at the National Security Agency and the Defense Information Systems Agency. As a representative to the Office of Management and Budget's working group for the Federal Desktop Core Configuration, he coordinated efforts by OMB, other agencies and Microsoft to develop a secure configuration for government PCs.
“Barrett’s successful interagency relationships are born of acknowledging the differences yet focusing on the commonality in agency charters,” said Timothy Grance, manager of NIST’s Cyber and Network Security Program.
