A Cybersecurity Career Path

The Office of Personnel Management is going to make cybersecurity its own career path, Federal News Radio reported Monday.

Currently there is no specific category for federal workers on a cybersecurity career path, Nancy Kichak, OPM's chief human capital officer, said. "We're trying to figure out if that's the appropriate thing or if a new series is needed."

The report said OPM is also analyzing the needs of federal agencies so we "can have some consistency in the base skills that the cyber workforce needs."

"This is not just about determining a new class," Kichak told Federal News Radio. "It's also about helping agencies figure out how to recruit and find those people that they need to do their work."

It is expected that cybersecurity will be a top priority for the Republican-led house in 2011.
