Lawrence Pemberton was just what the Navy needed in cybersecurity: a guy who is not afraid of numbers.

Pemberton took the lead on developing more accurate metrics for gauging the service’s compliance with the Federal Information Security Management Act oversight and the Defense Department's Cyber, Identity and Information Assurance Strategy. He also shared his expertise with the DOD Information Assurance Program and the Office of Management and Budget as they developed a final list of metrics to be applied across the government.

His oversight of Navy information assurance, critical infrastructure protection and privacy policies not only directly affects government networks, but also areas such as electrical power grids, financial information networks, and information security for DOD personnel and the general public.
