Federal 100: Christopher T. Hamm
Christopher T. Hamm
Operations Director, Federal Systems Integration and Management Center
General Services Administration
The work: Leading the team that got the IT systems for the Homeland Security Department’s new campus back on track.
The impact: DHS’ new location, which will bring together all its components for better mission support, is at the forefront of green IT and the use of cutting-edge wireless networking technology in a classified environment.
The nuts and bolts: After an earlier procurement was cancelled, Hamm was brought in to rescue a project that had significant schedule pressures and a radically reduced budget. He established a new program office co-located with DHS stakeholders and held regular, frequent meetings and briefings. He met every deadline in the acquisition schedule, and GSA awarded a task order without protest in June 2011, allowing work to get under way.
