Federal 100: James "Andy" Ozment
James "Andy" Ozment
Director of Federal Agency Information Security
National Security Staff
The work: Leading efforts to strengthen information security at federal agencies.
The impact: Ozment established White House IT security priorities for the first time in years. He also helped develop and launch the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace.
The nuts and bolts: Ozment used key Office of Management and Budget meetings, report cards and other internal White House procedures to get deputy secretaries interested and engaged in IT security, and CIOs immediately reported on the difference it made. And by working behind the scenes with OMB to protect agencies’ IT security budgets for fiscal 2013 — and in some cases increase funding — he strengthened key programs in an unprecedented way for a National Security Staff director.
