The work: Co-founding the Maryland Cyber Challenge and Conference to encourage talented students to pursue careers in the cyber field.

The impact: Fifty-two teams created innovative cybersecurity products and competed for awards and scholarships.

The nuts and bolts: Cox advocated the competition as a way to build interest and innovation in cybersecurity and backed it up with more than $100,000 in awards, including $84,000 in scholarships from the National Security Agency. At every opportunity, Cox encouraged support from SAIC teammates, clients and even competitors to ensure the program’s success. The competition culminated in a two-day conference for more than 900 attendees and 150 finalists, with funding from 28 sponsors and 17 supporting partners.
