Is John McAfee about to come clean?
The tech entrepreneur announced he plans to meet with Guatemalan officials.
Ever since tech entrepreneur turned potential murder suspect John McAfee hooked up with Vice magazine on the lam, his saga has taken such a turn for the unbelievable that, today, it's made its way almost back toward sanity. To recap, yesterday, after announcing his escape from Belize, Vice posted a photo of its editor in chief with McAfee, which — oops! — appeared to reveal the exact location of McAfee's new hideout in Guatemala. Immediately following that, in an attempt to throw us off his path, McAfee (and Vice's photographer) claimed the photo meta data revealing his move wasn't to be trusted — and he has since taken down the post containing it. In fact, McAfee has now deleted all three posts he put up on his blog yesterday, in favor for the following statement, which sounds legitimate.
I apologize for all of the misdirections over the past few days. It was not easy to exit Belize and required many supporters in many countries. I am in Guatemala and will be meeting with Guatemalan officials this morning. If all goes well I will do a press conference tomorrow.
So, McAfee now admits that he is, indeed, in Guatemala and will even meet with "officials" there. Though it's not clear exactly what he and the officials will discuss — are they cops? Government protectors? — but it does sound like we get to find out at yet another hyped-up media event.
