Hackers hit two administrative servers of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, exposing thousands of people’s personal data, including Social Security numbers and passport numbers, for employees, contractors and visiting lecturers at the center. A small number of files contained data from fewer than 15 people who were subjects in research studies. School notified victims in December 2012 after detecting the breach in May 2012.
