Healthcare center worker was an ID thief
Healthcare and Public Health // Indiana, United States
Police alerted a central Indiana nonprofit healthcare system that an employee there was stealing patients' identities.
"A former patient had stated that they had reason to believe that someone had taken their identity," said Jean Putnam, Vice President at Community Health Network."
An employee at the network’s Community Health Med-check-in office, accessed the computerized medical records of up to 180 people, “and may have taken their Social Security numbers, dates of birth, even credit card numbers.”
One patient, who wished to remain anonymous, complained about a delay in informing affected individuals about the incident: "The timing seemed a little bit off to me. It was over a month before I received notification from the time that they discovered it."
The person who breached patients' records no longer works for the center, but Putnam would not say if she had actually been fired.
