Hackers Raid Gamers, Target Energy Employees and Defense Contractor Linguists

Gamers' credit card information pilfered

A penetration of Riot Games’ servers yielded hackers the names, email addresses, encrypted passwords and encrypted credit card numbers of certain players of the League of Legends online game.

Legit software e-tailer's site is penetrated by malware

Hackers breached the website of an undisclosed Indian-based software provider to insert malicious code capable of spawning more infiltrations across the Internet.

Hackers probe U.S. defense contractor's Balkan linguists

Intruders spied on sensitive, private information regarding “certain individuals who applied to or have been retained as linguists” for Northrop Grumman’s Balkans Linguist Support Program, according to an 8/9/13 notification letter.

Hacks on Energy Department personnel continue . . .yawn

The agency emailed the workforce on 8/14 to say that intruders gained personal data, including names and social security numbers, of 14,000 current and former Energy employees. During several assaults in recent years, outsiders have successfully broken into federal systems containing information concerning Energy personnel.
