Hackers probe U.S. defense contractor’s Balkan linguists

Intruders spied on sensitive, private information regarding “certain individuals who applied to or have been retained as linguists” for Northrop Grumman’s Balkans Linguist Support Program, according to an 8/9/13 notification letter.

Details accessed included individuals’ names, birthdates, blood types, Social Security numbers, other government-issued ID numbers and contact information.

The unauthorized group entered a database containing this information between November 2012 and May 2013. 

Northrop Grumman officials said they “have no evidence at this time that any of the information has been further disclosed or used in an unauthorized manner.”
