Cape May-Lewes Ferry Hit by Payment Card Breach
Retailer // Delaware, United States
The Delaware River and Bay Authority this summer was notified by an unnamed party of a compromise affecting credit and debit card data stored on certain Cape May-Lewes Ferry systems.
Data on cards used to buy food, drinks and retail items at terminals and vessels might have been exposed. The organization’s reservation system was unharmed. This means online and onsite ferry ticket purchases were not affected.
The data at risk includes an unknown number of card numbers, cardholder names, and/or card expiration dates.
“We have not determined that any specific cardholder’s credit or debit card data was stolen by the intruder,” an FAQ posted on Oct. 24 states. “The authority has been processing credit and debit card data securely since August 8, 2014.”
The DRBA is a joint government agency of New Jersey and Delaware that operates bridges, ferries and aviation facilities.
