Antivirus Systems Unable to ID Malware That Slit Kmart Payment Systems

Kmart stores are the latest casualty of malicious software that rips credit and debit card data from in-store registers.
But officials at Sears, the parent company of the superstore chain, say this is a never-before-seen species of virus.
“Kmart store payment data systems were infected with a new form of malware that was undetectable by current anti-virus systems,” the company’s website states.
Some debit and credit card numbers of customers who shopped at bricks and mortar stores were affected. Sears declined to specify the amount.
So far, the investigation has not indicated that email addresses, Social Security numbers or other personal data were taken.
