Capital One Employee Poached Customer Account Data

An undisclosed number of people who bank with Capital One have become the victims of an insider attack.
In an Oct. 27 notification letter about the breach of personal information, Capital One Vice President for Operations Douglas Woodard wrote, “A former employee, while still employed at Capital One®, accessed it when they shouldn’t have. We know how unsettling this news can be and want you to know that we’ve notified law enforcement and this person is no longer with the company. “
The firm says it has not witnessed any fraudulent transactions related to the compromise.
The now, ex-employee accessed customer names, account numbers and Social Security numbers.
