CIS gearing up for deferred action
Citizenship and Immigration Services wants to hire secure IT personnel ahead of an expected tsunami of new application forms.
What: The Department of Homeland Security's Citizenship and Immigration Services is looking to hire a contractor that can securely support a tidal wave of paperwork resulting from President Barack Obama's November executive action that deferred potential deportation of the illegal immigrant parents of U.S. citizens and permanent residents for three years.
Why: CIS wants vendors' proposals by Feb. 20 on how to handle records support services in support of deferred action, with an eye to a contract by March, with full performance starting on May 19. The awardee is responsible for hiring, training and processing the security clearances of the new employees.
The deferred action will likely result in a rush of as many as four million people using a newly created application, Form I-821P, Request for Consideration of Deferred Action for a Parent of a U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident.
CIS said because of the sensitive nature of the information filed on the new forms, it's requiring the winning contractor to develop and maintain a comprehensive Computer and Telecommunications Security Program to address the integrity, confidentiality and availability of sensitive but unclassified information during collection, storage, transmission, and disposal.
