Sensitive Details Connected to Pennsylvania 911 Calls Posted on Facebook
Government (U.S.) // Pennsylvania, United States
Someone apparently posted non-public information concerning calls to the Luzerne County, Pa. 911 center on social media.
The Luzerne County communications center is in the process of upgrading its computer system, and sent a generic user name and password for accessing incident reports to some 235 agencies.
The password-sharing somehow led to a security breach; certain information needed to view the reports was posted on the social media network.
This compromised data is only supposed to be seen by first responders, such as police and firefighters, along with members of ambulance companies.
The incident reports detail who called 911, the nature of the call, and the location of the call.
The confidential information was published on the Luzerne County Fire Companies Facebook page on Feb. 26. That account is not affiliated with the Luzerne County government or the 911 center.
