User Forum at Court Reporting Service Was Hacked – But Transcripts Are Safe

Attackers compromised some posts and customer information in an online bulletin board maintained by transcription firm For the Record, which promotes itself as “the global leader of digital recording software and hardware integration services to courts in the U.S., Canada and throughout the world.”
Passwords were encrypted with the “weak MD5 algorithm,” the Register reports.
The company’s clients are mostly court administrators and court clerks. For the Record says that 61 countries have installed a total of 27,000 of its systems.
"The site’s registered users have been advised that some names and email addresses as well as forum posts on the site have been accessed by an unauthorised third party," the firm said in a statement.
The breach did not affect the company’s software, production system, client data or financial information, according to For the Record.
The attacked site is offline, while security specialists conduct a full audit.
