Local Guy Hacks an Illinois Mall Radio System to Sound Bomb Alarms
Government (U.S.) // Telecommunications // Illinois, United States
Raymond J. Kelly, 25, is accused of orchestrating the attack from his Waukegan, Ill. home. He allegedly infiltrated a radio system in Illinois’s Gurnee Mills mall to trigger false alarms.
Police identified Kelly by tracking signals from his house to the mall. A search of the home turned up various portable radios, antennas and a laptop.
Apparently he has been doing this sort of thing since 2009.
In 2013, Kelly was charged with penetrating the Lake County Sheriff's jail radio communications system. He was accused of tampering with the sheriff's office Corrections Talk Group and transmitting "offensive language."
