PI Hired Hackers to Dig up Dirt on People He Was Paid to Investigate
New York, United States
A private investigator that has provided services to New York City law firms had some malicious help with cases.
Eric Saldarriaga used an alias -- “Emmanuela Gelpi” -- to cover his tracks while seeking the aid of hackers in the underground online black market. His hired computer crackers gained access to at least 60 email accounts Saldarriaga wanted to target.
His firm, Iona Research, specializes in criminal and insurance claims investigations.
The website for Saldarriaga’s firm says it can perform tasks such as Internet profiling, email tracing and computer monitoring.
