Hacked TalkTalk Customers Now Are Being Phished
Telecommunications // UK
Last year, attackers breached some of the UK telecom company’s internal systems via a third-party that also had access to TalkTalk’s network. Then the hackers copied client data.
Now, crooks are using the purloined information to bait unknowing clients into providing banking details to purported (but fake) TalkTalk representatives over the phone.
The hackers obtained a few thousand customer names, addresses, phone numbers and TalkTalk account numbers.
The theft of data was discovered while TalkTalk was investigating a sudden rise in complaints from customers about scam calls between October and December 2014.
According to the Guardian, customers have lost thousands to the imposters.
