Someone using the stolen identity of Manuela Chavez, of California, racked up a $10,000 bill for hospital services in Salina, Ks. The 45-year-old West Coaster said not only had she never been to the ripped-off hospital, Salina Regional Health Center, but she had never been to Salina.
Chavez learned of the alleged ID theft when she tried to by a new house. She was denied a loan for a home in Hemet, Calif., because the debt showed up on her credit report. She then contacted the hospital to contest the bill.
Someone had used her identity to obtain care on four separate occasions between March 22, 2009 and Oct. 15, 2014.
