A hacker allegedly affiliated with the group Anonymous defaced the websites of the Falkland Islands Radio Service and the Islands’ Public Accounts Committee, a day after the anniversary of the 1982 battle.
The attacker, going under the moniker “Líbero” blocked the radio site’s content and broadcast the Argentine anthem instead. Both sites displayed images of Argentine soldiers. The Falkland Islands television station website also was hacked.
The Falklands War pit the UK against Argentina.
Líbero took credit for the online vandalism through Twitter.
In reference to Argentine President Cristina Kirchner’s recent remarks questioning British forces’ militarization of the South Atlantic, the hacker tweeted: “Now they want to attack [meaning the UK]… but how? They don’t even have safe systems.”
