Hacker Changes Class Ranking of N.C. High School College Applicants

Panther Creek High School officials said they are notifying the universities and colleges of all students who sent or uploaded their transcripts during the past month, when a hack occurred.

The school posted a letter on its website Nov. 5 stating the security breach was discovered recently. 

Class ranking was briefly impacted for most seniors. 

"Once class ranking is restored for all students so that it accurately reflect their grades, an unofficial copy of all seniors’ transcripts will be mailed to their home address," the letter states. While only a few students’ grades were changed, that altered the rankings.  

The school has notified parents of students whose grades were changed. 

The grade and class rank compromises were discovered by Panther Creek staff during a routine review. 

Coincidentally, news about the grade changes was released during North Carolina College Application Week.
