Three more agencies hiring for cyber leader jobs

NASA, the Agriculture Department's inspector general and the Department of Veterans Affairs all have senior technical leadership roles they are seeking to fill and are taking applications this month.

At NASA, the associate CIO for IT security will work across NASA's broad, federated IT environment to promote cybersecurity. The winning candidate will report to NASA CIO Renee Wynn and will need a top secret security clearance and technical and management experience. The position has a pay range of $123,175 to $170,400. Applications are due by Jan. 29.

At USDA's Office of the Inspector General, the supervisory IT specialist will do similar work, including testing and protecting the OIG's information systems. The salary for the GS-14 position is in the $108,887 to $141,555 range. Applications are due by Jan. 21.

VA's deputy CIO for enterprise data management will be an all-about-data Senior Executive Service hire. The deputy CIO is the point person for VA's data management and chief adviser on future data use. He or she will make $123,175 to $170,400 or more, depending on salary cap exceptions. Applications are due by Jan. 28.

Several other senior IT jobs are open throughout government. The Census Bureau has been hunting for a CIO since last fall, though a spokesperson has told FCW that the job could be filled soon. The Bureau of Industry and Security, which was hammered for lax security practices in an October 2015 IG report, also might have a CIO opening. (FCW has filed a Freedom of Information Act request to learn whether the bureau has a permanent CIO because a spokesperson has refused to confirm the opening.)

The Department of Health and Human Services has been working with an acting CIO since Frank Baitman left in November 2015. And the FBI will be accepting applications for a new CIO until Jan. 22.
