A compromised contractor laptop exposed personal information of 134,396 current and former sailors, according to the U.S. Navy.
A Navy statement said unknown individuals accessed sailors’ information—including names and Social Security numbers—through a Hewlett Packard Enterprise Services company laptop used to support an unspecified Navy contract.
“At this stage of the investigation, there is no evidence to suggest misuse of the information that was compromised,” the Navy said.
The service plans to notify the affected sailors and is reviewing credit monitoring service options.
