Video: Have You Been Hacked? Here Are the Signs
Stay alert.
This week, news broke that over 1 billion Yahoo accounts were involved in the largest known data breach in history.
If you have a Yahoo account from before 2013, it's very likely your personal information is a part of this compromise, and at risk. Yahoo has sent an email to those affected, advising them to change their passwords and take other security precautions
But in other situations, how do you know when you've been hacked?
Keep an eye out for suspicious activity and check to see if any account settings have been changed, and talk to contacts to make sure your account hasn't been sending out spam.
Also, be on the lookout for suspicious activity on other social media accounts. Hackers may have used the information gleaned from one account to access another.
To stay secure in the meantime, create different and difficult password phrases for each account and set up two-factor authentication wherever you can.
